Yesterday, today, tomorrow.
Since our founding in 1879, we've grown steadily and successfully to become one of Canada's leading business law firms. What began with three lawyers in one office in Montréal has expanded to more than 400 lawyers in offices in Canada and the United Kingdom. A business law firm from the start, the firm focused on corporate law serving clients such as Canada Steamship Lines, Dominion Bridge, and Royal Bank of Canada. The firm doubled in size during the 1920s, and when work was scarce during the Great Depression, the partners ensured the firm could weather this trying time without layoffs. The end of World War II signalled explosive growth that marked the addition of new areas of practice-employment and labour law and intellectual property law. In the mid-1980s, we opened offices in Ottawa and London, England and 10 years later, opened offices in Québec and Toronto.
The entrepreneurial sprit and creativity upon which our firm was founded continues in the energy and vitality of the firm today, and will carry forward with the optimistic outlook and adventurous spirit of tomorrow.
