There has been no meaningful legislative or policy reform in the Canadian financial services sector in 2005, other than draft legislation considered below with respect to corporate governance. The next major evaluation of Canadian financial legislation is scheduled for 2006. The more significant policy evolution in the near term may come from the Supreme Court of Canada's consideration of a case, discussed below, as to the extent to which a province may regulate a bank's insurance business.
