“Norton Rose is one of the top-tier firms, and the lawyers have a reputation for really getting their hands dirty.” Chambers 2011

Norton Rose is ‘quite frankly a quality offering,’ which is admired for ‘its ability to keep pace with all the developments in the sector’. Chambers 2010

Working with the global power sector is a core part of our energy business. We are one of the few international law firms that can offer our clients in the power sector a true ‘cradle to grave’ service. Our services don’t stop when a power project has been built - we work with our clients every day providing advice on tax, employment, environmental and safety, disposals, trading and dispute resolution.

In 2011, we are one of the few legal practices to have been ranked as band 1 for power globally by Chambers & Partners. We have advised on hundreds of power projects spanning the globe, the vast majority being IPPs.

Our experience in the electricity sector has been gained by advising on all aspects of the development of the electricity industry, its diversity reflecting the changes in the sector through privatisation, new models of regulation and financing and increasing internationalisation.

Our depth of knowledge of advising governments and government agencies, utilities, independent developers, traders, commercial and institutional finance lenders, export credit agencies, fuel suppliers, offtakers and contractors means that we can offer a comprehensive legal perspective to our clients.

We continue to be at the cutting edge of new developments in the power industry in both existing and developing markets. We never underestimate the challenges that ‘country first projects’ present which is why our power team are highly skilled, experienced and knowledgeable at dealing with such innovative transactions. We have acted on a number of innovative “first-in-country” power projects, including in Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia, Libya, Egypt, Qatar and Iran.

Our wide range of global experience in all types of power generation including nuclear, gas, coal and renewables means that Norton Rose Group brings a far-reaching advisory perspective to each of our clients and their specific needs.
