Acted in Seven of Top Ten Deals for 2007

According to Lexpert Magazine's cover story, Top 10 Corporate Deals of 2007: Making History, 2007 was a year that "broke the record books; a year in which the rules of engagement were rewritten" (Lexpert Magazine, January 2008 Issue).

Ogilvy Renault acted in seven of what Lexpert considers to be the ten most significant transactions of 2007, including the top two deals of the year:

  • Alcan Inc. on the US$38.1billion acquisition by Rio Tinto-the biggest all-cash takeover in Canadian history.
  • Cerberus in its bid to privatize BCE Inc., Canada's largest telecommunication company.  
  • Bowater Inc. on its merger of equals with Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. AbitibiBowater Inc. will be the third largest paper and forest products company in North America and the 8th largest worldwide.
  • The Special Committee of directors of Shell Canada Limited in connection with Royal Dutch Shell plc's C$8.7 billion offer to acquire the minority shareholding in Shell Canada.
  • Goldman Sachs Credit Partners, financiers in the C$2.3 billion purchase of Alliance Atlantis Communications.
  • Isadore Sharp in the privatization of Four Seasons Hotels-a deal worth US$3.9 billion.
  • Archer Daniels Midland Corp. in connection with the sale of its 28% holding of limited voting common shares of United Grain Growers Limited.  

2007 was a record-breaking year for M&As in Canada and Ogilvy Renault is proud to have been at the heart of the activity.
