Ogilvy Renault acted on the number one cross-border deal of 2006 according to Lexpert's Top 10 list featured in the 2007 Lexpert Guide to the Leading U.S./Canada Cross-Border Corporate Lawyers in Canada.
Ogilvy Renault was Canadian counsel to Domtar in its US$3.5 billion merger with U.S. giant Weyerhaeuser's fine paper business, creating the largest fine paper company in North America and the second-largest in the world. The deal boasted an innovative structure that combined a U.S. Reverse Morris Trust with a Canadian exchangeable share structure. "We believe this is the very first time a cross-border M&A transaction has been effected through a Reverse Morris Trust," notes Norman Steinberg, managing partner of Ogilvy Renault in Montreal.
In addition, four Ogilvy Renault partners are ranked among the leading cross-border corporate lawyers in Canada: Norman M. Steinberg (M&A), Kevin J. Morley (Asset-Based Lending), Jacques Demers (Banking) and Derrick C. Tay (Insolvency & Corporate Restructuring).
Stephen Kelly is also recognized as one of the "Top 20 Corporate Lawyers to Watch."
