Peter J. Stanford

Biography

Peter Stanford is a Senior Partner in our Litigation Group, and a member of our Insurance Law and Professional Liability Team.

Mr. Stanford was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 1982 and practised as an insurance litigator in Vancouver for twelve years.  He joined our Ottawa office in 1993.

The primary focus of Mr. Stanford's practice lies in the areas of professional liability litigation and insurance law.  In recent years he has also become increasingly involved in the handling of litigation relating to the financial services sector, including claims against mutual fund dealers and financial advisors.

In the area of insurance law, Mr. Stanford has represented both insurers and insureds in actions seeking indemnity under insurance contracts. He has also developed particular expertise in furnishing coverage advice in a broad variety of areas, including professional liability programs, D&O insurance, CGL policies, duty-to-defend disputes and captive insurance contracts.

Mr. Stanford has appeared as counsel in courts at all levels in both Ontario and British Columbia, as well as in the Supreme Court of Canada.
