Biography

Daniel Artola practises in all areas of intellectual property law, with an emphasis on patent litigation. An experienced trial lawyer, he has conducted trials, administrative hearings and appeals before the Federal Court of Canada and the Quebec Superior Court. His expertise includes advising innovative drug companies with respect to patent infringement and regulatory matters. He recently represented a successful plaintiff in a patent infringement action and successfully defended a multi-million dollar trade-mark and passing-off action before an arbitration panel.

Mr. Artola acts principally for innovative companies in enforcing and defending their patent rights. He also works closely with clients to fully protect their R&D efforts and to avoid infringement of third party rights. Mr. Artola currently acts for some of the largest R&D-based manufacturers in Canada. He frequently gives opinions on infringement, validity and freedom to operate.
