The Honourable Pierre A. Michaud Joins Ogilvy Renault

Montréal - Ogilvy Renault announced today that the Honourable Pierre A. Michaud, Q.C., who until very recently was Chief Justice of the Quebec Court of Appeal, has joined the firm as counsel and will pursue his career in the field of national and international arbitration and mediation. Widely respected in the Canadian legal community and renowned for his vast legal knowledge and experience, Mr. Michaud will bring exceptional expertise to our firm," said Raymond Crevier, Managing Partner of Ogilvy Renault. Called to the Quebec Bar in 1961 after earning an LL.L. from the Université de Montréal, Mr. Michaud practised law for more than 20 years with a Montréal firm of which he became a senior partner. In the course of his practice he was called upon to plead before courts from all jurisdictions, including the Supreme Court of Canada. Mr. Michaud was made a Queen's Counsel in 1976. He was appointed a justice of the Quebec Superior Court in 1983 and served as that Court's Associate Chief Justice from 1992 to 1994. In 1994, he was appointed Chief Justice of the Quebec Court of Appeal, which post he continued to hold until June of this year. Mr. Michaud has maintained a keen involvement in the legal community throughout his career. He has taken part in a number of commissions of inquiry and served on numerous committees of the Canadian Bar Association, the Quebec Bar, the Bar of Montréal and the International Association of Insurance Counsel. From 1993 until very recently, he was a member of the Executive Committee of the Canadian Judicial Council and served as the Council's Second Vice-Chairperson beginning in 1996.
