Top Canadian Tax Official Len Farber to Join Ogilvy Renault

Toronto, Ottawa and Montréal - Ogilvy Renault LLP is pleased to announce that Len Farber will be joining the firm as a Senior Advisor on January 3, 2006. Len is recognized as an unparalleled expert in Canadian tax policy, and will be an indispensable resource for Ogilvy Renault's clients. Len will join Ogilvy Renault's tax group, which is comprised of 18 professionals in four offices, and will be based in the Ottawa office. Len's practice will focus on advising clients on tax policy issues, assist in the resolution of tax disputes, and provide a valuable resource to the rest of the tax team in connection with tax planning and advice. Len will join a group of experts committed to delivering effective tax advice to help clients attain their business objectives. Ogilvy Renault's tax lawyers play an integral role in merger and acquisition and corporate finance mandates, ensuring that tax considerations are factored into the decision making process to optimize results for our clients. Len comes to Ogilvy Renault after 30 years of public service with the Government of Canada, where his most recent position was General Director, Tax Legislation Branch of the Department of Finance. In this capacity Len was the highest ranked official in the areas of tax policy and tax legislation in the Canadian Government. Over the past three decades he has been involved in all major reforms of our tax legislation and has been a key player in the shaping of our current tax system. Len has represented the Government at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, in tax treaty negotiations and as a member of the Council of the International Fiscal Association (Canadian branch).
