Excerpt

Having just retired from a 17-year tenure with the Tax Court of Canada, the last three as Chief Justice, the Honourable Donald George Hugh Bowman leaves behind him a legacy that some have compared to that of Lord Denning. Lexpert interviewed Bowman in Ottawa recently to reflect upon his career and the legal gems that define it.

Indeed, Bowman's greatest legacy may be his judicial imagination.

"Bowman has not been afraid to tackle well-established concepts and principles with great dexterity and imagination," says Wilfrid Lefebvre of Ogilvy Renault LLP. "He's a bit like Lord Denning in the sense that even if he's overturned on appeal, the courts will have evolved toward his thinking in another 10 or 15 years."
