Ogilvy Renault Counsel Joan Clark Appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada

Joan Clark, O.C., counsel and founder of Ogilvy Renault's Intellectual Property Group, was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada on July 1, 2008. She was given the honour for her contribution to law by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada. The Order of Canada is the country's highest honour and recognizes a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
In announcing Joan's appointment, the Governor General stated, "For her contributions as a pioneer for women in law, and as a major force in improving animal protection by helping to bring about a groundbreaking animal protection law and the implementation of standards regarding the use of animals in research."
Joan participates in every aspect of intellectual property law. She practises as a barrister before all the courts of Quebec and Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and as a solicitor. She was also Past Chairman of the Intellectual Property Law Committee of the Canadian Bar Association and Past President of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property.
