Raising Capital on the TSX and AIM - Canadian and UK Experts Look at the Facts

Toronto - Most Canadian companies have historically listed on domestic exchanges. But recently, there has been a trend of smaller, growing companies listing on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) of the London Stock Exchange (LSE)-as a supplement or alternative to listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) or TSX Venture Exchange (TSX-V). What factors are driving this?
Leading financial and legal professionals from Canada and London shared their knowledge and experience on this development during a seminar at the TSX today. Raising Capital on the TSX and AIM included presentations from the TSX, AIM, RBC Capital Markets, Ogilvy Renault LLP, Jones Day and Deloitte & Touche LLP.
Panel members looked at the opportunities and challenges companies should consider when listing on AIM or dual-listing on both exchanges. These include:
- Understanding what AIM is and how it works
- How the TSX/TSX-V and AIM differ
- Why companies dual-list
- What the main concerns and pitfalls are
- How companies can access these markets
- What the IPO process involves
Fifty Canadian companies are currently listed on AIM. Forty-nine companies from around the world are dual-listed on AIM and the TSX/TSX-V. There have been 41 Canadian admissions to AIM in the past three years.
