Cleantech

Concerns related to next generation energy and the environment are taking on greater importance in the world in general, and the world of business in particular.

Cleantech encompasses a broad range of products, services, and processes designed to reduce or eliminate environmental impacts. Cleantech, the industry term for "clean technologies," is also increasingly understood to include any technology that promotes the more efficient use and re-use of the earth's resources in industrial production and consumption.

Cleantech's origins are rooted in an increasing demand for clean forms of energy generation, and also refer to an emerging financial asset class of clean technologies. Clean technologies are expansive and include alternative energy projects, wastewater treatment, and resource-efficient industrial processes to name only a few. Although many companies within Cleantech industry sectors are very different, they share a common trait: all use new, innovative technology to create products and services that compete favourably with existing products and services on price and performance while reducing impact on the environment.
