Tranzyme Pharma

On November 1st, 2007, Tranzyme Pharma, a leading biopharmaceutical company developing small molecule drugs for the treatment of gastrointestinal and metabolic diseases, completed a new round of private financing, raising a total of US$20 million. The financing was led by existing investors H.I.G. Ventures, Thomas, McNerney & Partners, Quaker BioVentures and BDC Venture Capital.

Tranzyme Pharma was represented for Canadian law matters by Elliot Shapiro and Patrick Shea of Ogilvy Renault LLP.

Enobia Pharma

On September 10th, 2007, Enobia Pharma Inc, announced it has raised $40.1 million in a Series B multi-tranche financing. The proceeds will be used primarily to fund the company's novel hypophosphatasia drug development program through Phase 2 clinical trials. There is no known cure for hypophosphatasia, a severe genetic disorder that affects the ability to mineralize bone. The financing was co-led by new investors OrbiMed Advisors LLC ("OrbiMed") of New York and CTI Life Sciences Fund of Montreal ("CTI"). The current investors in the company, Fonds de solidarité FTQ, Desjardins Venture Capital, Lothian Partners and T2C2/Bio 2000, also participated in the round.

Topigen Pharmaceuticals

On August 15th, 2007, Topigen Pharmaceuticals Inc., a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company specializing in respiratory disorders, announced the closing of $26 million in a Series C financing round. The total amount raised by Topigen from all sources is $75 million, including $62 million in equity, further strengthening the company's position as a global leader in respiratory therapeutics. In this round, new investors NovaQuest and MMV Financial, Inc., join the existing venture investors: BDC Venture Capital, Desjardins Venture Capital, Caisse de Dépot et Placement du Québec (Caisse), T2C2/BIO 2000 and Lothian Partners 27 (sarl) SICAR. Additional funds and investors may be added to this financing.
